The parlay bet explained
Understanding a parlay's risk and reward
🎰What is a parlay?▼
A parlay (or accumulator) combines several selections into a single bet. To win, ALL selections must be correct. In exchange for this increased risk, the odds multiply, offering a far higher potential payout than a single bet.
A single losing selection brings down the whole parlay. That's why the more matches you add, the higher the payout climbs, but the more the probability of winning collapses.
🧮The formula▼
Total odds = odds₁ × odds₂ × … × oddsₙ
The total payout is simply the stake multiplied by the total odds. Net profit is that payout minus the stake. Each added selection multiplies the odds — and the risk.
Practical tips
📌 Bookmakers love parlays: their margin compounds with each selection, making them statistically unfavorable.
📌 Limit the number of selections: a 3-4 leg parlay stays reasonable, beyond that probability drops fast.
📌 To reduce risk, some prefer short parlays with solid odds rather than long improbable ones.
